Multi-Media Player FAQ
Q. What is the HDD-based multi-media player ?
A. It is a multi-media player that can play movies, music, photos, and also store data like an external portable hard drive.
But it is different from other portable multi-media players as it uses normal PC hard drive. You can install any of your own PC hard drive, or do not even need to install hard drive if the media player supports the network function.

Q. Is the hard drive supplied as formatted?
A. No, we normally supply the media player with new hard drive.
But, for your convenience we could supply the media player with the hard drive as formatted, without any additional charge, if you request us to format the hard drive. That means the media player is ready to be used, when arrived to you saving your valuable time of formatting. You can simply copy and paste the media file from your PC before connecting to your TV.
In case your computer does not recognize the media player as an external USB memory storage device, then you can re-format the hard drive in your own computer. If you are not sure, please contact us for further help.
As we use only top brand products, brand new, most hard drives we supply are free from any defect.

Q. What type of hard drive is compatible ?
A. Both IDE (or PATA) and SATA type hard drive are compatible depending on the model you choose. Please contact us for any inquiry if you are sure which product to choose from.

Q. What do I get when I order a HDD-based multi-media player ?
A. Normally it includes the player unit, a remote control (with batteries), a power cable (converter), a USB cable, A/V cable, a manual, screws. Some products include a bag, a composite cable, an S-video cable, and even a screw driver.

Q. Which brand hard drive is installed inside ?
A. We use top brands. For example, SEAGATE, MAXTOR, SAMSUNG, HITACHI, WESTERN DIGITAL, TOSHIBA.
All brand new products with proper manufacturer warranties on top of our standard one year warranty.

Q. Are there any restrictions on regions or copyright in storing films from the video shop, etc ?
A. There is no restriction on regions, but the copyright lies in your own risk.
If you own a dvd title, then you may copy it for back-up purpose only. You have to ask the DVD title provider for the copyright.

Q. Films recorded directly off sky to a dvd recorder, for example, can they be stored and played back ?
A. You cannot record directly off sky to this device. However you can play DVD files depending on the file formats supported.
Newer models with TV recording function will come out in the market around middle of year 2007.

Q. There seems to be no software which is criticised on the web, how do you drag and drop without it?
A. When you connect the player to your PC through USB cable, the device will show as a USB storage device.
Then you can simply copy and paste it just like in a Windows File Explorer.

Q. What size is the hard drive and how many films can be stored?
A. A typical divx file size for one movie is about 750 mb.
The biggest hard drive available in the market is 1.5 TB. DVD movie file is about 4 to 5 GB depending on the movie. That means you can store upto 1000 video movies in the media player depending on the hard disk size and the movie file format selected.

Q. What is the 'firmware' that I keep reading about ?
A. A 'firmware' is a software but can control or change the hardware function. By downloading the firmware and updating it, your media player will have better performances.

Q. How do I upgrade the firmware ?
A. Please look at the manual you receive included in the media player pack. It explains how to download and update the new firmware. If you are not sure, please ask us by sending us an e-mail.

Q. You have the wireless media player. What is the picture quality like in wireles mode as oppossed to running cable directly to a hd tv ?
A. Wireless mode can have intermittent file transfer interference while the cable connection mode is the most secure and smooth file transfer and display.

Q. How long does it take for the delivery ?
A. Normally we keep most items in stock. Most of orders received before 11:00 AM(PST) will be shippeded on the same day. If a certain item runs out, then we list in our web-site so that customers know which items are available immediately.

Q. I have a question that is not listed in this page. what should I do ?
A. Please feel free to email us at info@unicsen.com. We will do our best to answer your question as soon as possible. If the question applies to most media players, then we will list here so that everybody can read it. For any complicated question, we will ask to the manufacturer and will try to list here.


TVIX Multimedia Player FAQ
Q. What is the difference between M-5100SH and M-4100SH?
A. Functionaly, they are exactly same. The only differences are the shape and the material of the case. Also optional DTV tuner is diffrent. M-5100SH tends to be a little quieter since its Aluminum case helps to dissipate the heat and the fan run slower as a consequence.

Q. How do I make TVIX have the Wireless network connection ?
A. You can attache USB Wi-fi adaptor for Wi-fi connection.
However, the compatible adapters are limited. Please check the exact model.
a. You can choose the default network between Wired and Wireless.

i. D-Link DWL-G122 (HW ver. C1)
ii. Linksys WUSB54GC
iii. Belkin F5D7050 with Ralink chip (ver. 3000 or 3001 only)
Not compatible with Belkin F5D7050 latest version 4000 or later

Q. How to browse files with icons ?
A. 1. Make a empty file named as "icon.tvix" on the folder that you want to browse by icon.
2. The file name for the file used for the icon files is case sensitive, it must be the exact same name as the media file except that the extension must be jpg or png(if you want to use transparency, set the transparency color as 0xC8C8C8.)
3. To show the folder as icon, please put "folder.jpg" or "folder.png" on the folder.
4. You can customize the upfolder icon by put upfolder.png or upfolder.jpg on a folder. You will see the changed the upfolder icon when you are on the folder.
• The maximum icon size is 720 * 480, and the best size is 100 * 136 for JPG.
• If you want to make transparent icons, you must make it PNG and the size must be 100*136.
The file name is case sensitive.

Q. How to copy files without PC ?
A. With M4100SH/5100SH, you can copy files from Netowrk share, USB, or internal disk to USB and internal disk. For the detail, please check below.
1. Go to the folder which contains source files.
2. Press Function key on the remote and select the Copy icon on the popup then select files with Ok key.
3. After selection, press Function key again then OSD will be changed from Source to Target.
4. Go to the target folder and press Function key again then you can see Copy or Cancel icon, then select Copy then files will be copied.

Q. Safe Mode Firmware Upgrade
A. < Upgrading the Safe Mode - Instructions and Precautions>
If the power runs out or is shut down by accident, you will have to restart the Safe Mode Upgrade.
Please refer to the following Instructions:
1. First connect the TViX to your PC
2. Create a 'tvixfw' folder to the first partition of the TViX hard disk.
3. Copy the most recent firmware file to the tvixfw folder after extract the firmware.
4. Disconnect the TVIX from your PC using Safe Remove feature of WIndows.
5. While pressing the SETUP button, turn 'ON' the power of the TVIX.
6. The copied firmware will be displayed on the VFD screen as 'HDD1/FW 1:01:00"
7. If you press the OK button on the remote control or the TVIX, it will start the firmware upgrade.
8. The PRE message and numbers will be displayed when erasing the previous firmware.
9. When upgrading, the VFD, UPG and numbers will be displayed.
10. When the upgrading process is finished the TViX will reboot automatically and the initial screen will be displayed on the TV.

* If the firmware cannot be upgraded with the Safe Mode, it means that either the loader is damaged or the hard disk cannot read the firmware. In such cases, please consult with the technical support team.
